EU Parliament supports Moldova’s move towards EU membership

MEPs raised concerns over the situation in Transnistria, a region in Moldova controlled by pro-Russian separatists and backed by about 1,500 Russian troops. In April, a series of explosions was reported in the region which could be seen as a measure to destabilise the country. They expressed support for a “comprehensive, peaceful and lasting political settlement of the Transnistrian conflict,” which would mean the withdrawal of Russian forces and recognition of the territorial borders of Moldova, which include Transnistria.
